Calculator embed builder

Pick a calculator — or the live rates table — match it to your page, and copy the code. It takes about thirty seconds and there is nothing to sign up for.

Step 1 — Pick a widget

All 27 calculators are embeddable, plus 2 live-data feeds that keep themselves current, and 2 narrower cuts of those feeds for a page that wants fewer rows. No account, no approval, no usage limit.

Step 2 — Theme

Follows each reader's device setting.

Step 3 — How much of it to show

The whole calculator — chart, breakdown, schedule and all. Pick Compact for a narrow sidebar, where a full widget is taller than the column.

Step 4 — Maximum width

The widget never exceeds this, and shrinks to fit narrower columns and phones.

Step 5 — Starting values (optional)

Every number and every dropdown. Leave these alone and the calculator opens on its own sensible defaults.

Step 6 — Copy this into your page

<iframe id="calcwise-mortgage-calculator" src="https://farbetteroff.com/embed/mortgage-calculator" title="Mortgage Calculator by Far Better Off" width="100%" height="2600" frameborder="0" style="border:0;max-width:600px;width:100%" loading="lazy"></iframe>
<script>window.addEventListener("message",function(e){if(e&&e.data&&e.data.type==="cw-embed-height"&&e.data.slug==="mortgage-calculator"){var f=document.getElementById("calcwise-mortgage-calculator");if(f){f.style.height=e.data.height+"px"}}});</script>
<p style="font:13px/1.4 system-ui,sans-serif;text-align:center;margin:6px 0">Powered by <a href="https://farbetteroff.com/calculators/mortgage-calculator" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Far Better Off</a></p>

Paste it into any HTML block — a Custom HTML block in WordPress, a Code block in Squarespace, an Embed element in Wix, or plain HTML anywhere else. The small “Powered by Far Better Off” line is the only thing we ask for.

The iframe works even if a reader has JavaScript off, and the credit link sits in your own HTML. Keep the little <script>line with it — that’s what stops the widget getting an inner scrollbar.

Just want the URL (for an oEmbed field or your own iframe)?

Powered by Far Better Off

This is the real widget, sized by the same resize script that ships in the snippet — not a mockup. Drag a slider in it.

No account, ever

No sign-up, no approval queue, no key to rotate. Copy the code and it works.

Nothing running in the frame

No ads, no cookies, no third-party scripts. It loads lazily and resizes itself.

Yours to keep

No usage limit and no expiry. All we ask is the small credit line under the widget.

On WordPress? Skip the snippet.

Our free plugin adds a Far Better Off block, a [calcwise] shortcode and pasted-link support, so there is no code to keep intact and no height to guess. Get the WordPress plugin →

Rather call it than frame it?

The same math is a free JSON API — no key, no signup, CORS open — if you want to build your own interface around the numbers instead. Read the API docs →

Or the embed reference — every option this builder sets, plus the ones it doesn't: the height message, oEmbed, and the accepted values for every field on every calculator.

Questions site owners ask

Do I need an account or approval?

No. Build the code here, paste it into your page, and it works. There is nothing to sign up for and no application to wait on.

Can I set the starting numbers my readers see?

Yes — that's Step 5. A local lender can open the mortgage widget at their own average rate, or a car site can start the auto loan at a typical price. Readers can still change every number themselves.

Will it match my site's dark mode?

Pick Light or Dark in Step 2 and the widget stays on that theme no matter what the reader's device is set to. Leave it on Auto and it follows each reader's own light or dark setting.

My sidebar is narrow. Is there a smaller version?

Yes — pick Compact in Step 3. It keeps the answer and the sliders, puts the answer on top, and leaves out the chart, the comparison, the schedule and the share row, so it fits a column around 360px wide. Readers get the full calculator by clicking its name at the top of the widget.

Does the widget set cookies or load trackers?

No. The embed sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts. It remembers a reader's last inputs in their own browser's local storage, which never leaves their device.

What is the small script for?

It listens for the widget's height and resizes the iframe to match, so there is no inner scrollbar and no empty space. If your CMS strips scripts, the iframe still works at its starting height.

Can I preset a dropdown, like a 15-year term?

Yes. Step 5 lists every dropdown beside the numbers, so a mortgage widget can open on a 15-year term, a paycheck widget on the state you write for and its filing status, and a card payoff widget on "minimum only". Your choice rides in the snippet the same way a number does, and readers can still change it.

Is there anything that isn't a calculator?

Yes — pick “Today’s rates” under Live data in Step 1. It is the nine national average rates (mortgages, the Fed funds target, savings and CD yields, the 10-year Treasury, and the Fed's card, car and personal loan averages), each with its own reading date, refreshed every six hours from FRED. There is nothing to preset and nothing to update later: paste it once and the numbers on your page stay current.

What do you ask for in return?

Keep the small "Powered by Far Better Off" line that comes with the code. That's the whole deal — no fee, no usage limit, no ads inside the widget.
